The great storm of February 28th…

In the end, the storm that did so much damage to Southwestern France hardly made an impact on Basse Normandie and a little picking up of twigs is all that’s needed at La Rieudière… Phew! We’re open for business as ever.

Snow, wonderful snow

18cm (7″) of snow fell here yesterday… Incredibly rare. Thank goodness for modern central heating to keep us all toasty – not to mention the wood-burning stove in the kitchen.

Wildlife

At La Rieudière, we get the best of the countryside. Even in winter, we have herons and buzzards gracing our skies. OK, the heron is actually eating the fish out of our ponds!

We’re waiting for a moorhen family to take up their spring quarters, as they do every year.

As it’s a bit cold outside (it is only January, after all), it’s nice to be able to see all this from inside!

A new busy season begins, and La Rieudière is looking forward to showing off its new island! Over winter, we’ve had the lake extended and a little island built. It’s simply great to watch nature go by with a drink in your hand (or you can fish the lake, if you want). Photo soon!

Summertime and the pool is ready

Summer is here – warm days, hot afternoons and yes, the pool is open for business! There’s nothing like floating about in that clear blue water sipping a drink. Yes, yes, I suppose you can swim in it too.

For the more energetic swimmers amongst you, there’s always the private lake where you can get a real workout. No chlorine. The occasional labrador may join you for that swim, though!
